Captain Joey Stone
After serving with the U.S. Army and National Guard as an infantry soldier, Capt. Joey Stone began his law enforcement career with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office in 2003, starting in the Jail Division before moving to the Enforcement Division in 2005.
In 2007, he was assigned to the Detective Bureau, where he played a key role in shaping the Bureau’s current structure and capabilities.
Throughout his career, Capt. Stone has been instrumental in the development of several critical functions within the Sheriff’s Office. He helped build and advance the SWAT team, serving as a team leader, and contributed significantly to the growth of the Detective Bureau, including the establishment of a forensic laboratory and mobile forensic capabilities.
Capt. Stone holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Jacksonville State University and is a certified polygraph examiner. He is a firearms instructor and a graduate of the Southeastern Leadership Command College.
As the Law Enforcement Division Captain, he oversees seven bureaus: Patrol, Communications, Detective, School Resource, Court Services, Offender Management, and Reserve and Volunteer. His responsibilities include administrative oversight, budgeting, and procurement, including capital expenditures such as vehicles, protective equipment, and other essential resources that support daily operations across the division.
Captain Jordan Shekels
Capt. Jordan Shekels began her career with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office in 2013. She holds an associate degree in General Studies from Gadsden State Community College and a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Columbia Southern University.
Capt. Shekels has earned multiple professional certifications, including the FBI‑LEEDA Trilogy, the National Certified Corrections Supervisor designation through the National Institute for Jail Operations, Certified Jail Manager through the American Jail Association, and dual‑purpose K9 handler certification.
As the Corrections Division Captain, she oversees the daily operations of the Calhoun County Jail, ensuring the safety and security of staff, inmates, and the facility, while maintaining full compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, and regulations. Capt. Shekels provides leadership, guidance, and mentorship to support the development of future leaders within the Sheriff’s Office.
Her responsibilities include managing staffing and personnel needs, overseeing the budget and special projects, and coordinating partnerships with contracted service providers and other agencies. She also assists with strategic planning, policy development, and operational improvements to ensure the jail operates efficiently and effectively. Capt. Shekels’ role requires balancing immediate operational needs with long‑term planning to support the mission and goals of the Sheriff’s Office.
Lieutenant Josh Cryar
Lt. Josh Cryar serves as a Lieutenant with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, bringing more than 15 years of law enforcement experience to his role. A Marshall County native and graduate of Guntersville High School, Lt. Cryar began his public safety career working in a county jail at age 18 before serving on active and reserve duty with the United States Army.
He continued his career with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, progressing through assignments in the Corrections Division, as well as Patrol, Court Services, and Detective Bureaus. After gaining additional experience and leadership responsibility in municipal policing at an agency in Baldwin County, he returned to Calhoun County, where he now serves as lieutenant for the Patrol and Communications Bureaus. In this role, he oversees all patrol operations and dispatch operations, manages the Field Training Officer (FTO) program, and helps ensure effective communication and readiness across the agency.
Lt. Cryar holds a bachelor’s degree from Faulkner University and a master’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Liberty University. He is a licensed polygraph examiner, having completed an intensive 10-week polygraph school and state licensing process. He is also a certified emergency vehicle operator instructor, providing remedial and advanced driver instruction to employees.
Lieutenant Josh Doggrell
Lt. Josh Doggrell began his law enforcement career with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy prior to entering into police academy training in September 1997. He spent his first eight years as a patrol deputy.
After his initial patrol service, Lt. Doggrell spent a year in Court Services as a transport deputy before returning to Patrol for two additional years. He later continued his career at the Anniston Police Department, serving in patrol, investigative, and administrative roles. During his tenure at APD, he earned promotions to sergeant and then lieutenant, supervising both patrol operations and investigative units. Following several years in the private sector, he returned to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office at the request of then-Sheriff Matthew Wade.
Lt. Doggrell holds a Bachelor of Science in Law Enforcement with a minor in History from Jacksonville State University. He has completed extensive professional training throughout his career, including the Leadership in Police Organizations program.
Lt. Doggrell oversees the Court Services, Offender Management, and Reserve and Volunteer Bureaus. His responsibilities include policy development and leading the agency’s comprehensive policy rewrite, fleet management, and coordinating the initial hiring process for deputy applicants. He also conducts background checks, manages walk‑ins, and coordinates transport services for courts served by the Sheriff’s Office.
Lieutenant Chris Nastally
Lt. Chris Nastally began his law enforcement career at age 27, driven by a strong sense of purpose and a desire to serve others. He entered law enforcement in 2016 with the Anniston Police Department before gaining additional experience with other agencies, including the Jacksonville Police Department.
This broad background across multiple jurisdictions now informs his leadership and decision-making at the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.
Lt. Nastally currently oversees the Detective and School Resource Bureaus. In this capacity, he supervises investigative caseloads and oversees SRO operations, ensuring that personnel fulfill their responsibilities with professionalism and integrity. Throughout his career, he has served in Patrol and Communications, and has held various positions, such as field training officer (FTO) and detective.
Lt. Nastally has served on the agency’s SWAT and Crisis Negotiation teams, and has eearned the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy award. He holds an associate and bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, a master’s degree in Justice Administration from Faulkner University, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice Leadership at Liberty University.
