The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office makes every effort to recruit, hire and retain competent, qualified employees. We also recognize the difficulty that college students, especially those majoring in Criminal Justice, have in obtaining real-world experience as well as finding part-time employment while in school. Sheriff Larry Amerson founded the JSU Program as a means to bridge the needs of both his office and help struggling students.
The JSU Program has been a very successful partnership between the Sheriff’s office and JSU. The Sheriff’s Office seeks to hire correctional officers, communications officers, clerical help and other staff by recruiting students from Jacksonville State University. At any one time, 15 or more students may be working at the Sheriff’s Office. Both the students and the Sheriff’s Office benefit from this arrangement. A number of our students have gone through the employment process and obtained positions as full-time permanent staff members.
Employment opportunities are not limited to the Criminal Justice field. Many disciplines including Business, Computer Science, and others are hired on an as-needed basis. Anyone interested in part-time employment with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office may come by the office at 400 West 8th Street in Anniston during business hours, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, to pick up an application or you can download these items below.
